The Secret Life of Us: profiles

Stephen Curry

Stephen says of his character, “I like Stu.  He has a good heart and he’s a bit of a goof—somewhat like me.  He doesn’t do too well with the girls but he tries hard.”

Stephen has only ever wanted to act with his first theatre role at the age of eight and first agent at 13.

“It’s the only thing I’ve ever done right,” he says with a laugh.

While his Dad was an accountant and mother a nurse, Stephen and his four siblings have all had careers as performers.

He has collaborated with his brothers on writing various film projects and together they played in a band doing the Melbourne pub circuit.

Stephen graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology where he studied film.  It was during his final year that he played the role of Dale Kerrigan in The Castle.

This was undoubtedly the turning point in Stephen’s career.

He met Eric Bana while doing The Castle and in 1997 came on board writing and performing for the Eric Bana Sketch Series.

Stephen was to work with Eric again in 2001 on The Nugget, filmed in Mudgee.

Other well-known film credits include Cut; The Wog Boy and Take Away.

Stephen’s television credits include the award-winning Changi; Flipside; Queen Kat, Carmel & St Jude, and Day of the Roses.
