On the anniversary of Patrick's death, Patrick's younger brother arrives in town and seeks out Helen — there is something he needs to resolve.

As Helen inspects properties with Hugh, Helen finds herself back in the past, remembering Tom and Patrick's troubled relationship. Later she angrily confronts Tom about why he never came to visit Patrick when he was dying.

At another rental house the next day, Helen revisits the night she and Tom spent together in Pat's flat, which ended in a passionate embrace. Hugh decides to rent the house and Helen sneaks back that night for a secret bath. She and Patrick are terrified when they hear strange noises, confirming Patrick's belief the house is haunted.

Next day Hugh confesses the reason the rent was so cheap — there was a crime committed there. On Jack's suggestion they smoke the house to get rid of the bad spirits, but as the smoke clears Helen realises Patrick is gone too. Distraught, she searches the house but he is nowhere to be found.

Back at the Baa Bar, Tom arrives and tells Helen he needs to apologise — and she's the only one left. Seeing his grief, Helen tells him about the night Patrick died. Patrick comes back, and his hospital bed appears in the Baa Bar as they relive his final moments. The brothers are finally reconciled.

Meanwhile, Matt and Ellie break up, and both of them respond in different ways. Ellie is so distracted that Toby begins to worry for her safety; she almost seems to have a death wish. Matt tries flirting with Claude, an attractive worker at the Desert Park — but realises things are still a bit raw for him. Instead he volunteers at the park, helping with the native plants.

Natalie is sick of Michael mooching over Jess, though Michael reckons she can't talk — she's still in touch with that idiot, Will, who dumped her by email. They agree to a land-sailing race-off: if Natalie wins, Michael is banned from talking about Jess — if Michael wins, Natalie is banned from contacting the Desert Ranger. They set off across the claypans, each determined to triumph.

Tom says goodbye to Helen and there is a note of flirtation between them as he wonders whether he might find an excuse to return to the Alice sometime. They kiss tenderly, and an astonished Patrick realises that was not a first kiss. All this time he never knew — Helen pashed his brother!

Meanwhile, Jack is convinced Helen is looking at real estate for herself. He offers her his carriage in a bid to keep her at the Baa Bar, but to his relief Helen assures him she loves her caravan. This is her home, and she's not going anywhere.
