When checkout chick Lola Buckley wakes up in the boot of a moving car, she finds herself sharing the dark, cramped space with uptight, borderline OCD accountant, Chelsea Babbage. The two women have caught the same bus together every weekday for 18 months, but have never spoken a word. When their would-be kidnapper Chris reveals to Lola that corrupt cops are behind the crime, the two women have no choice but to go on the run until they can find help.

Chelsea and Lola cross the border into the supposed safety of Queensland while they try and work out a plan. But their movements are being tracked by Ray Stanton, the corrupt head of the task force set up to solve the bus stop shooting. (If only he can get to the two women before rookie detective Joshua Levine uncovers the truth). Meanwhile, Chelsea begins to suspect Lola is hiding a dark secret — but she has a secret of her own. Either way, Chelsea and Lola will have to quickly learn to rely on each other if they're going to survive the growing number of people on their tail.

A misunderstanding at the petrol pump leads to a breakdown in the middle of nowhere, and Chelsea and Lola find themselves lost and dehydrated in the middle of the bush. Camping out overnight, the two begin to bond, meanwhile Boke, a pathological hitman sent by Ray, is hot on their trail. A close encounter with Boke, along with the discovery that their car was stolen while they were camping, strengthens their determination to get somewhere safe and try and explain their side of the story — before it's too late.

The chase for the car with the money leads Chelsea and Lola to the wild Baruma Bush Bash. With relations still strained from what was learnt in Lola's hometown, Lola confronts Chelsea about her own secret baggage. The argument threatens to derail them just as they get close to the car, but they eventually reconcile their differences — only to be arrested by the detective, Josh Levine. He drives them to a drop-off point negotiated by Ray, but it's a trap and nothing the women have faced before will come close to the danger that awaits them.
