Zandra is fed up with Lex's leadership and begins making herself a comfortable home with help from Ryan. Outside, Cloe ventures after a lost calf and retrieves it inside the Locos camp, narrowly avoiding discovery. Bray explains to the others that he's been watching them for some time and, given the battle outside for control of the city, believes they're the safest option for Trudy and the baby. Patsy and Paul discover Jack's secret food cache and encourage him to share it with the others — or just with them in exchange for not telling the others. Amber criticises Jack for continuing to try to make contact with others using the radio and for encouraging hope in Cloe. Instead, she wants him to put his hope in themselves and not to be looking for outside miracles. Ryan asks Jack for help to identify the thief when his and Lex's money goes missing. The antibiotics begin to take affect and Trudy's condition improves but she is not enthusiastic about her baby. Zandra rebuffs Lex's advances and tells him she wishes he was more like Bray. Finding Patsy and Paul trying to break into his food locker, Jack tells them it is now "Patsy and Paul proof". Bray informs Trudy that Zoot wants to see her but Trudy doesn't want to talk to him. Salene tries to withhold food from the others until the dishes are cleaned but no one is interested. When she's alone, Lex tells Trudy she's no longer welcome and he wants her out. Not willing to wait down the sewers while Bray goes back into the mall to fetch Trudy, Zoot makes his way inside and meets up with Bray and Trudy — and his new daughter. Despite their efforts to stay quiet, Patsy and Paul wake up and warn Lex about the intruder. Trudy refuses to return with Zoot who's intent on taking over the city and he won't give up his tribe to stay with her. Lex and Ryan appear and challenge Zoot but Bray intervenes allowing Zoot to escape into the mall. With everyone now awake, Lex blames Bray for betraying them by letting Zoot in. When Lex goes after Bray, Zoot comes out of hiding to stop Lex but Zoot falls over the balcony railing to his death. Flush with power after having stopped Zoot, Lex is prepared to throw Bray out when Trudy speaks up and surprises everyone by revealing that Zoot was only there to see her and his baby. Lex wants to dump Zoot's body outside to send a message but Bray suggests they give him a proper funeral for Trudy and the baby. Jack leads the kids to the cemetery only to discover it is occupied by the Demon Dogs. Jack suggests a burial at sea and the kids give Zoot a send-off befitting the warrior chief he thought he was. Zoot's death affects Bray hard and he reveals that Zoot's real name was Martin — and that he was his brother.©tzuk

Jack also gets out of doing his chores by trading them to Patsy and Paul for more food. Lex and Dal go out to scavenge for food but end up mucking around at the rail yard where the Demon Dogs find them forcing them to run back to the mall. Salene is upset when someone puts up an wanted poster seeking a "desint mutha". Bray blames Lex and the two get into a fight. When Amber breaks them apart, Lex tells her that in order to exert some order in the mall, they need a strong leader — him. Amber wants Bray to oppose Lex for the role of leader but Bray says she is what the kids need but they must put the choice before the kids in a fair and democratic election. Trudy resents Salene for looking after her baby and for the attention she gets from Bray as a result. Trudy accuses Bray of not caring for her, just the baby, and that he really wants to be with Amber. Realising she can't beat Lex in the election and still expect him not to make things difficult for her, Amber tells everyone to vote for Lex believing that if she gives him power and responsibility, he won't last long in the job. Patsy and Paul continue to lose at poker to Ryan. Seeing an opportunity, Lex helps Paul cheat in exchange for his vote. Ryan discovers Jack's secret food supply and tells Lex. To keep the secret, all Lex wants is Jack's support in the election. In spite of his vote buying, Lex wins the election 9-3. Afterwards, Ryan tells everyone about Jack's food cache and Lex makes his first decision as leader — they'll put Jack on trial.©tzuk

With Jack's trial about to begin, he threatens Lex with telling the others that Lex has been taking extra water if he is found guilty. Amber protests against having Lex alone decide Jack's punishment so Lex agrees to set up a proper courtroom with Ryan as judge, Amber prosecuting, and Lex as defence. Jack's explains he was only hiding food so he could make it last longer but it is Lex's subtle threats to reveal the others' various offences that gets them to find Jack innocent. Lex's next move is to create a new chore roster. The girls are tasked with all the cleaning and cooking while the boys are assigned "defence training". The girls are not pleased but Lex stands firm. While the boys are asleep, Amber hatches a plan to make Lex see reason — the girls will do absolutely nothing. No cooking, no cleaning, nothing — the boys can do their fair share of the work or all of it.©tzuk

Everyone is woken up by strange noises in the mall. Knowing it is only Bluebell, Bray is unconcerned and refuses to join Lex and his "troops" as they investigate. Lex and the boys find the calf and he agrees not to kill her if she will be able to provide milk. Amber's frustration with Bray and Trudy boils over and she says they should leave. Amber later tells Trudy she needs to give her baby a name and take a larger role in caring for her which by itself will keep Salene away because so far it has been Trudy's own actions that have been driving her and Bray apart. Meanwhile, the girls' revolt begins with a refusal to make the boys breakfast and Lex is told it won't stop until he puts and end to the sexist division of chores. A leak in the water tank leads to the discovery that the rooftop tank is empty. Lex's ill-timed suggestion that the girls haul water from a nearby stream only adds fuel to the girls' rebellion. A banquet is organised to celebrate Trudy finally naming her baby. Salene gets Ryan to fetch water for cooking and invites him, Jack and Dal to share in the meal so they can see what benefits there are to sharing the workload.©tzuk

Trudy is in full mommy-mode, flaunting her baby in front of Salene. Amber tells Salene to let things between Bray and Trudy sort themselves out and not interfere. With no milk to give, Lex puts Bluebell's fate back on the table upsetting Cloe. Neither Ryan nor Jack can bring themselves to kill the calf but neither can Lex who returns to the mall feigning an injury, telling everyone the Locos attacked him and took Bluebell. Salene tries to teach Patsy and Paul to play piano but discovers Ryan has removed the wires to help built Jack's new rainwater chute. Amber appeals to Lex's vanity and gets him to reassign jobs. Lex gives up leadership to focus on security, Amber is to look after day-to-day tasks, and Bray is in charge of provisions — a job he earns when he brings back some chickens. Meanwhile, Cloe runs away to find Bluebell and is caught outside when a much-needed rainstorm comes.©tzuk

Questioned by Lex, Ebony says she's just after Zoot and simply made a mistake coming alone but the kids don't believe her. What to do with Ebony is their next decision — they can't keep her and they can't let her go given she what she knows about them. Execution is the only other option according to Lex but Tai San preaches patience — a course of action will become clear in time. Tai San advises Zandra to not rush into rescheduling the wedding but to wait until things have calmed down — it is not what Lex wants to hear given his reason for getting married. Lex has questions to answers about what happened in the cage and he explains that Ebony said she was sick and escaped when he went in to help. Trudy is upset about once again seeing Bray and Salene kissing. Tired of Lex's evasions, Zandra corners him and demands an explanation of what happened with Ebony. Unaware their conversation is being broadcast over Jack's PA system throughout the mall for all to hear, Lex quickly becomes a laughing stock. Salene and Amber have words about Trudy. When Zandra confides in Ryan that Lex is just pretending to flirt with Tai San to make her jealous, Ryan finds he must hold his tongue having promised Lex not to tell Zandra about his relationship with Tai San. To even things up, Zandra decides to make Lex jealous by flirting with the love-struck Ryan. Jack takes on KC as a new assistant — briefly. Bray tells Salene they can still be an item but she doesn't want anything more to do with him seeing their relationship as the reason Trudy abandoned her baby. Nomad leaders Troy and Susannah question Dal and Trudy about their skills and explain that they stay out of trouble with the locals tribes by providing them with what they can't get elsewhere. After meeting Misty, a young Nomad abandoned by her mother, Trudy tells Dal she's decided to return to the mall — she belongs with Brady. Dal offer to return with her but Trudy encourages him to go on without her. Lex's demands wear on Tai San prompting her to break up with him, proclaiming it was a mistake for them to get together. Lex persists with Tai San, asking her to teach him how to meditate, but she tells him there is a strict rule against spiritual teachers and their students "getting it on". Trudy returns to the mall to find Amber furious with her, Salene once again taking care of Brady, and no one particularly happy to see her. Trudy explains she returned because she's tired of running away from things — it's time she faced her responsibilities. Cloe, Patsy, Tai San and Salene are prepared to give her another chance and Amber agrees to let her stay. Unable to get what he wants from Tai San, Lex returns to Zandra, explaining he was only interested in Tai San's beliefs. Trudy informs Amber about the Tribal Meeting. Amber is intrigued and believes they need to start having contact with the outside world but Lex thinks it is too dangerous. While casually talking, Tai San tells Zandra that there was never anything between her and Lex, they only slept together twice — as an aura balancing exercise. Zandra's reaction shows Tai San is more than capable of defending herself. Meanwhile, Sasha, a travelling entertainer, arrives at the nomad settlement and is welcomed to stay until the tribal leaders' meeting.
