Mammone to play Mokbel

MAKE-up artists on the gangland TV drama Underbelly are going to have their work cut out for them, with spunky actor Robert Mammone cast in the role of drug lord Tony Mokbel.

As filming begins this week Mokbel, who is no oil painting, is being held in a Greek jail awaiting extradition to Australia to face two charges of murder.

Mammone, from the Matrix Revolutions , cut his teeth beside Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer while filming The Crossing (where Crowe met his wife) and was a groomsman at Crowe's 2003 wedding.

Lantana's Vince Colosimo and Wildside's Simon Westaway are also roughing themselves up for the 13-part Melbourne mob series, which will air next year.
