New Australian Crime Drama Series: The Strip

The Nine Network today announced production of a new Australian drama, THE STRIP, a 13-part crime series to be filmed on location on the Gold Coast.

THE STRIP centres on the characters in a criminal investigation unit as they investigate the dark world of crime in one of the sunniest and shiniest environments in Australia.

From the producers of Wildside and East West 101, THE STRIP stars Aaron Jeffery, Vanessa Gray, Simone McAullay and Bob Morley, and will be directed by Shawn Seet, Ken Cameron, Ian Barry and Garth Maxwell.

Steve Knapman and Kris Wyld are producing the crime drama for the Nine Network through their company, New Wave Entertainment.

“We have always wanted to film on the Gold Coast — it is a spectacular landscape and very cinematic,” Knapman said. “You couldn’t find a better setting to stage a crime scene.”

“We think we can bring an exciting look and entertaining storytelling to the television screen, and create a place the audience will want to revisit every week. Like LA and Miami for Americans, we want to make The Strip a national icon for Australians,” Wyld said.

Jo Horsburgh, the Nine Network Head of Drama, said: “I'm thrilled with the way The Strip has come together. Great characters, great stories and a fantastic location. It’s a good, strong, Aussie drama and I can't wait to see it on the screen.”

THE STRIP goes into production on Monday, May 19.
