Local drama given the boot

CHANNEL 10 has dropped its under-performing Melbourne-produced teen drama The Secret Life Of Us.

Despite new cast members and a concerted effort to lift the standard of the scripts, the Deborah Mailman-led show has been hammered in its new 9.30pm Wednesday time slot.

Secret Life came a poor third in Melbourne this week, averaging just 161,000 viewers to Nine's Without A Trace (544,000) and Seven's My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance (329,000).

In Sydney the figures were even worse with Secret Life averaging a miserable 135,000.

Next Wednesday, Secret Life will be replaced with at 9.30pm with The Resort, which moves from 8.30pm, while new episodes of Law & Order will fill The Resort's 8.30pm slot.

Ten insists, however, Secret Life hasn't been axed. Filming of the fourth series will continue and the show will return later in the year in a less competitive slot.

"We will find it a more friendly home," a Ten spokeswoman said.

"But it definitely hasn't been axed."
