Pixie and Molly have qualified for their Girl Guides' Airwoman's Badge, and are envied by the others in the class. The girls all decide to get their cooking badge next which will require them to go into the bush to catch a rabbit, kill it, skin it and finally prepare it for Miss Pittman. They think it will be an easy task, until they see how cute the bunnies are.

A remark about rabbits and 'multiplication' exposes Pixie's lack of knowledge about sexual reproduction. Unfortunately, Aunt Vera does not want to explain to her the facts of life and suggests she talk to grandma but she will only speak in riddles. But then Pixie discovers a book with the promising title "All About Nature" and hopes it will shed some light on the matter.

Hoping to join their friends on a Girl Guides camp out, Molly and Pixie take on odd jobs to earn the necessary money. But with only one week to accomplish their goal, their friends take an interest in their task. Louise even bets her new bangles, a rare gift from her father, against Myrtle's imported coloured pencils that they will succeed. While taking on any manner of task, the girls must also contend with the antics of Jimmy and Freddo, and Mrytle's scheming.

The Camp Out

The Girl Guides' camp out starts off on the wrong foot when Miss Orrick appears as a last minute replacement for Guide leader Miss Pittman. Forthermore, the surprise guest Patrol Leader turns out to be Anne who is a strict taskmaster. Pixie and Molly take advantage of Anne's tendancy to faint at the sight of blood to get back at her for singling them out for all the hard jobs. The weeked takes a serious turn when Miss Orrick is bitten by a snake leaving Anne to take charge of the group. Her heroics make the newspaper outing her as a Girl Guide to Grandma.

Jimmy's basketball team is on the wane so when Molly accidentally drops by during practice and teaches them to play properly, Jimmy has the great idea to add her to the team. He even dresses her up like a boy — with matching haircut — to get her on the court for their next game.

Dispite her tough exterior, the teasing about Molly's boyish haircut upsets her and she takes to wearing a hat all the time. A big celebration is coming up — Molly and Pixie are to be confirmed. Of course they need the perfect outfits for the occasion, so Aunt Vera takes them on a shopping trip to Melbourne. They are accompanied by Marguerite's charming father Jacques who has invited them to join him and Marguerite at the theatre to see the famous ballerina Anna Pavlova. Pixie and Marguerite go for a walk in Melbourne's Chinatown causing everyone to miss the ballet.

Miss Orrick informs the class that the end-of-term exams are close. Pixie is determined to top the class while Molly is aware that if she fails she'll have to repeat the year — at great expense to her parents. However, neither Pixie nor school swat Lucy have the time or desire to give Molly additional tutoring. Instead, she is advised to contact Cyril, the mastermind of the boys highschool. When Cyril begins to pay too much attention to Molly, she and Pixie decide to play matchmaker with a more suitable girl.

While the rest of the family is delighted with the end-of-term festivities at the tableau-vivant and the start of the holidays, grandma is annoyed by her constant struggles with the children and Aunt Vera's lack of independence. To show their appreciation, the girls decide to clean up the house. Aunt Vera announces she has decided to remarry. Pixie and Molly are concerned that she is marrying for all the wrong reasons and set out to stop M. Chevrier's proposal lest Anne and Jimmy be forced to move to France.
