Stingers: articles

Peter Phelps and Kate Kendall

Nine Signs for series eight: Peter Phelps and Kate Kendall are set for another series in the successful Stingers

High-flying Stingers

CHANNEL 9 threw a celebratory dinner last Friday for the 150th episode of its Melbourne-produced undercover cop drama Stingers.

The network also took the opportunity to announce it had commissioned an eighth series, which means the Simpson-Le Mesurier Stingers team will be with us until the end of 2004.

Not a bad effort for a programme that, at one point, looked as if it may be battling to make it into series two.

Greater focus in the characters has certainly made the show more accessible for viewers while Peter Phelps, Kate Kendall and, more recently, Gary Sweet have made the most of scripts of varying standard.

The efforts of former regulars Anita Hegh, Roxane Wilson and Ian Stenlake should also be acknowledged.
