Episode 3 The Staphopoulos family, which owns and operates a foundry, is involved in a web of jealousy and hatred. Bitter conflict between father and son, rooted in the Greek civil war 25 years before, escalates as the old man, Miklos, becomes the victim of a bomb attack and the son is terrorised by threats and funeral wreaths. Ryan is hired to keep the peace among the flaring factions but finds himself in trouble when a suspected fake kidnapping turns out to be the real thing. Episode 8 Ms. Terry Davis, a powerful figure in the American women's liberation movement, visits Australia. Episode 9 While searching for the missing daughter-in-law and grandson of an Italian businessman, Ryan uncovers a massive vice racket and finds himself enmeshed in a web of murder, violence and illicit sex. Ryan finds the answers, but by then Anton has suicided, Maria is being held hostage, and Ryan is given an impossible deadline to produce the ransom money. Episode 14 John Mitchell, a cold-blooded ex-Army special operations officer, is hired by Major Wilson to search out and destroy the killer of the Major's young daughter, who died from an overdose of drugs. Mitchell decides instead to take a piece of the drug market himself and proves deadly and efficient at his work. Major Wilson then calls in Ryan to halt the mayhem he has unleashed. Episode 18 Ryan investigates a daredevil hijacking from a semi-trailer, where thieves jump a truck and unload its cargo of cigarettes while the vehicle is on the move. The driver, an aging truckie called ‘Fibber’, reaches a crisis when he realises he can no longer keep pace with the sophistication of the modern road transport industry. Jack Hayes, his old driving partner and now the manager of the company, is going to sack him — unless Ryan can prove his innocence. Vicki has been sleeping with Jack to gain information about valuable shipments being trucked to aid her hi-jacker friends. But by this time 'Fibber' is out on the highway in a 25-ton truck — with no brakes. Episode 19 Ryan is puzzled when an evening's quiet drinking is interrupted by Jana, a slightly crazy, beautiful girl who wants to know all about Adam Parker and won't believe that Ryan has never heard of him. Next morning Ryan receives a copy of ‘Hamlet’ and a $10 note in the post, with a note from Adam Parker asking him to keep the book safe for collection. Ryan finds he has become the reluctant guardian of a key to $2 million worth of smuggled heroin. Adam Parker is discovered dead, and Ryan himself becomes the target of a deadly gang of drug smugglers. Rival factions of the gang are willing to bribe, seduce or kill him in order to get the two suitcases of heroin. Neither they nor Ryan know that one of the cases is packed with high explosives. Episode 23 A man, who left his family for no apparent reason, disappears from a city hospital. Ryan finally tracks him down to the airport, where he has collapsed and died, apparently of a heart attack. Or did he? The case involves Ryan with a crime mob run by a man code named 'Eagle', who tries to leave the country. Ryan is used as a decoy to lead police away, and he and Det. Ryan must match wits with Kane, a professional assassin, as he closes in. Episode 32 Touring English pop singer Johnny Wyatt appears to be drunk on stage and cancels his appearance. Ryan, called in to investigate the possibility that Wyatt was drugged, puts his own life in danger when dealing with two shady characters involved with the singer, and Julie becomes romantically involved with Wyatt. Episode 408 Ryan becomes involved in blackmail, murder and intrigue as he clashes with the Homicide team. The case centres on the Tango Club, a discotheque which is a front for a high class house of prostitution catering to businessmen. The club is also a front for a blackmailing racket as the club's manager surreptitiously takes photos of guests as they cavort with the club's girls, Niki and Val. Ryan is hired by a worried and influential businessman to recover negatives of photographs being used to blackmail him. Ryan's methods are not the most orthodox and he quickly comes into conflict with the Homicide squad when Tango Club manager Billy Maxwell is found dead. As a prime suspect, Ryan has to move fast to find the murderer. Another murder is committed before the case is solved — with Ryan and the Homicide team working in confusion, misunderstanding and mistrust. Starring: Charles 'Bud' Tingwell as Det. Insp.
