Ten starts new ratings war with Rush, hires Underbelly stars

NETWORK Ten has snapped up actors from Channel Nine's Underbelly, for a new crime show set to start a new ratings war between the networks.

The network today announced it would start production on its new Melbourne-based crime drama Rush in May, with the program to hit TV screens in the second half of the year.

The series will be set in a critical incident police unit and tells the story of a contemporary mobile police squad on the streets of Melbourne.

Rush will feature two actors from the Nine Network's controversial Victorian gangland television series Underbelly, Rodger Corser and Callan Mulvey.

Produced by Southern Star's John Edwards, it will also star former The Secret Life of Us guest actor Catherine McClements and Claire Van Der Boom from pay TV's Love My Way.

"Ten gave us the opportunity to break new ground in drama with The Secret Life of Us and now we've been given that kind of opportunity all over again," said producer John Edwards.

Ten's executive producer of drama and production Rick Maier said Rush was a perfect fit for Ten.

"The idea is clean, the characters are complex, and the production team is the best in the business," Mr Maier said.

Ten is also working on another new Australian series, Out of the Blue.
