RESCUE Special Ops: articles

Ambos race to Nine's rescue

INSIDER can confirm that Underbelly alumni Les Hill and Peter Phelps will head a strong cast in Nine's new action-driven drama, Rescue Special Ops, the medical series about elite ambos responding to extreme calls - think Police Rescue, with a defibrillator.

The show also stars Libby Tanner (All Saints), Gigi Edgley (Stingers) and Daniel Amalm (now starring on the big screen in the movie Two Fists, One Heart).

The 13-part drama, which begins shooting locally next month, means Hill's American plans have stalled.

"Yep, LA's on hold at the moment. I mean, it wasn't the best year to go, with the (SAG) strike, and I was always keen to stay here, if the right thing came along," Hill told Insider.

Both men have begun arduous training regimens, with both keen on the physicality attached to their new roles.

Nine's head of drama Jo Horsburgh admitted the series was similar to Seven's new-look All Saints, but insisted Rescue Special Ops would still stand out.

"Obviously, we started working on this series before we knew of the changes to All Saints and ours will prove different," she said. "It's edgy, lots of great stunts, self-contained, with a brilliant cast and the same high standards people have come to expect from a Nine series."
