Raining talent at Mt Barker

AND they're filming . . . The cameras started rolling this week on the new ABC drama Rain Shadow, which is being shot in and around Mt Barker.

Actress Rachel Ward headlines the cast, which also includes Gary Sweet and Victoria Thaine - although we hear Gary only arrived in town on Wednesday.

The six-part series is being produced by ABC TV/Southern Star Entertainment and is about the drought-ravaged dry land farming community of Paringa.

District vet Kate McDonald (Ward) is battling to keep her community afloat and reluctantly hires a new veterinary assistant, Jill Blake (Thaine, above).

"The relationship between these two women is at the heart of Rain Shadow, " ABC executive producer Miranda Dear says.

Others appearing in the series include Carmel Johnson, Nathaniel Dean, Heather Mitchell, and Panda Likoudis.

Rachel Ward's famous hubby Bryan Brown is not travelling with her at this stage, but we hear if all goes well, he may bring their children over for a visit soon.
