Gibney hails new role

THE approval of new series Packed to the Rafters signalled an improvement after years of saturation by reality TV, according to the star, Rebecca Gibney.

Channel 7 approved the series last week and she will start seven months of work in February.

She said it was reassuring to see priority being given to quality programs with real actors, after years of low-budget reality shows. "Australian television is on its way back up after a low," she said.

"People are tired of watching reality and they are choosing to watch shows like ours, and networks are investing in them."

Gibney will star alongside Erik Thomson in the series, which follows the lives of a long-married couple whose children have all recently left home.
