Noah & Saskia: article

Hannah Greenwood

Hannah Greenwood’s character Saskia and her co-star Jack Blumenau’s Noah King create Internet alter egos with qualities they think they lack. Saskia’s Indy is self-assured, carefree and sexy, whereas Saskia is a prickly, defensive and shabby looking teenager. Noah’s Max is cool and sophisticated, not a 14-year-old dweeb like Noah.

Alter egos on the Net

THE Australian star of the ABC’s youth series Noah and Saskia, Hannah Greenwood, says she has had a fascination with acting since she was a child.

Greenwood, 17, recalls sitting in front of the television at a young age wondering if the people “inside the box” were real.

“I was watching TV and I asked mum ‘Is that real?’ She told me it was and I love imaginary games and pretending things so I just knew straight away it was what I wanted to do.”

Greenwood, who is still at school, has been involved in theatre productions since she was 11 years old. Her television credits include Horace & Tina, a stint on Stingers, State Coroner, Short Cuts, High Flyers and Legacy of the Silver Shadow.

Greenwood says Noah and Saskia, based around the cyber world and an online relationship between teenagers on opposite sides of the world, is in touch with modern youth because Internet chat rooms and e-mail were gaining popularity.

Both Greenwood’s character Saskia and her co-star Jack Blumenau’s Noah King create alter egos with qualities they think they lack.

Saskia’s Indy is self-assured, carefree and sexy, whereas Saskia is a prickly, defensive and shabby looking teenager.

Noah’s Max is cool and sophisticated, not a 14-year-old dweeb like him.

Both fear their friendship with the other will be ruined if they reveal the truth.

“A lot of teenagers do hide behind the Internet, it gives them a way to paint themselves up to be someone completely different,” Greenwood says.

Though the two actors appear in scenes together at the end of the series, it’s all done with technology – Greenwood filmed all her scenes in Melbourne and Blumenau worked from Britain.

“It was really strange never to have met my co-star,” Greenwood says. “When I was filming he hadn’t even been cast.

“I still have never spoken to him but I recently found out his name was Jack.”

When she graduates from high school next year, she hopes to continue her career in acting.
