In the peaceful, leafy New Zealand suburb of Waimoana, a man wakes up in a lovely home, to his lovely wife and children. But he can't remember anything — not who he is, not having a wife and kids, not even his own name. The people around him call him Alec Ross, but he only has their word for it. Setting out to discover what's going on, he stumbles on the truth — this is not his life and he may not get out alive.

Alec realises he must proceed with caution after the events in the forest, seeing the changed Kyle, and the discovery of the chip in his own head. Plagued by nightmares, he is still sleeping on the couch. He goes to relationship counselling with his wife, but suspects that counsellor Mike knows more than he is letting on. Alec realises most of the people of Waimoana are happy and reasons that anyone like him is more likely to be unhappy. He finds a discontented, beautiful young woman, Jessica, who was sacked from his work place after an office tryst and now works as a 'hostess' at a club. He overcomes her animosity and she agrees that some of his story resonates. But can he trust her?

Jessica starts to come around to Alec's weird theories when she realises the office junior who replaced her looks like her, has a similar background, and is dating the same guy who pressured Jessica. Jessica plays up to Gordy who reveals that he works for Personal Systems and it's his job to track people. While Jessica distracts Gordy, Alec downloads the tracking program and works out a way to block their chips. He breaks into the library and discovers that while there are no files for him or Jessica, there is a very revealing one on Gordy. Plus, Alec finds Callie's file from her life before Waimoana.

Episode 5

Alec's daughter, Becky, is sick. She has nightmares where she mentions a bad man, Harry, who calls her Hannah, and a ring with snakes — the insignia of the Eugene Corporation. Alec is excited by these clues, and starts wondering what residents are exposed to in order to maintain community happiness and harmony. Jessica continues to date Gordy in the hope of learning more. She reveals her theories about Waimoana to a friend at the club, which bring her to the attention of Dr Collins. Jessica is deeply shaken by the doctor's questioning and Alec confronts Dr Collins and tells her to leave Jessica out of it. Dr Collins surprises him by not denying that Kyle was replaced and saying she will look into Alec's allegations. Alec and Jessica draw closer and closer together, but she refuses to be 'the other woman'.

Alec is even more determined to discover Waimoana's secrets after finding out that there is a transmitting device in all the residents' beds. Dr Collins' queries into Kyle's whereabouts prompts a visit from Waimoana's new Head of Security, Richard Foster, who assures her that the old Kyle is a safe place. Dr Collins is unconvinced and uses Jessica to test her own theories. When her plans go awry and Jessica is picked up by security, Dr Collins warns Alec, who enlists Gordy's assistance to track Jessica to an isolated place where they make a startling discovery. Meanwhile, Jessica wakes up from the effects of Dr Collins' drugs in Gordy's care, the man she remembers as her dear and devoted suitor.

Gordy should be on top of the world — he's finally dating Jessica and he gets a job promotion — working for Security under Richard Foster. But Gordy knows Jessica will never be happy until she learns who she really is. He now knows there is something rotten going on below the surface of happy, safe Waimoana. Meanwhile, Alec feels trapped in the domestic humdrum, getting no closer to the truth. He misses Jessica, who wants him to accept that it's hopeless between them, but also feels protective of Callie. Gordy's new job involves monitoring unusual movements of Waimoana residents. He's unsettled by information he discovers about Security's methods, but also realises he can use his position to find out more about Jessica and prove his worthiness. He and Alec form an unlikely alliance and break into the Security headquarters. Alec discovers two amazing facts — both and Jessica's real identities. But before he can unlock more secrets, he is attacked.

Alec is ushered in to meet with a Eugene Corporation board member who turns out to be a man he recognises and who claims to have hidden Alec in Waimoana for his own good, but won't elaborate. Alec is offered the chance to leave, but is thrown when told that he can't take Jessica with him, and that his 'real wife', Sarah, is waiting to meet them on the outside. Richard is suspicious of Alec's newfound relationship with the corporation and after digging deeper, he is cornered by Alec's Eugene Corporation ally. Realising Dr Collins has exposed him, Richard threatens her. Alec is poised to leave Waimoana when he discovers a hidden message from Sarah warning him not to trust anyone on the inside.

Strange things are happening in peaceful Waimoana. There are uncharacteristic television news reports of a break-in and attempted sabotage by terrorists. Alec soon learns it's a plan by Richard to unite the citizens, and as resident watch patrols are set up Stephen and others throw themself into it with gusto. Dr Collins is not impressed, believing this goes against the principles of Eugene, that Waimoana is about security and happiness. Richard warns her not to get involved, and gains more power to see his plans through. Meanwhile, Jessica is shocked to learn that she is pregnant, and unsure of who the father is, she can't bring herself to tell Alec. Instead she helps him come up with a plan to escape.

The old Alec Ross has broken into Waiomana with some other RECALL terrorists to rescue John Sheridan but they are attacked. Old Alec wants his life and family back, but Callie has no memory of him. Alec realises that he has to find a way to set things straight before he leaves and hatches what he believes is the perfect plan. Gordy, deeply suspicious of Jessica's movements, realises that Alec no longer has a chip implanted in his head and can't be tracked so goes to Richard to stop him.

Episode 13

Alec has set his plan in motion to replace himself with old Alec and put things back the way they were before Harry changed everything. However, Richard captures Anna and tortures her, hoping to discover why Alec Ross is so important to the rebel organisation, Recall. Unaware the escape has been compromised, Alec continues with his plan. Meanwhile, Hope, still angry and upset at having been dumped by Alec, finally springs her revenge. Meanwhile, Gordy refuses to let Jessica out of his sight but Alec manages to help her slip Gordy a sleeping pill, but their plan fails and Gordy intercepts Jessica as she tries to sneak out and a struggle ensues. Alec has one last desperate plan for escape, meanwhile, Anna finally cracks and reveals Alec's real identity. It's now a race against time as Richard hunts down Alec.
