Kath & Kim: articles

Hints of a Kath & Kim movie

FOXY moron fans, crack open the cardy: Seven has dropped its strongest hint about Kath & Kim's return to the small screen.

At Tuesday night's 2008 program launch, Seven said the hit comedy was one of the shows that would air this year. But fans may have to endure weeks of repeats before new episodes are shown.

Kath & Kim executive producer Rick McKenna ruled out a new fifth series of the show in 2008, but hinted at a second telemovie or TV special. "Jane (Turner) and Gina (Riley) start back at work next week with a coffee and a meeting, chatting about ideas," he said.

"The first telemovie (Da Kath & Kim Code) took under six months from start to finish, so we'll see."

But it's full steam ahead with the US version of the sitcom.

After a lengthy search, Hollywood star Selma Blair will play hornbag Kim, opposite Saturday Night Live comedian Molly Shannon, who was cast last year in the role of Kath.

NBC, the network which picked up the American rights to the show 12 months ago, has had a tough time putting its version of Kath & Kim to air.

It had plans to shoot a pilot mid-2007, but the original choice for Kath, Joan Cusack, dropped out. There was a change in scriptwriters, and now the writers' strike has stalled production.
