H2O - Just Add Water: behind the scenes

This first set of image captures come from a behind-the-scenes special that aired in the UK

H2O was filmed at Warner Roadshow Movie World Studios on Australia's Gold Coast. This was the soundstage.

Inside, the Moon Pool was constructed...

Actor Luke Mitchell shows off the boatshed location that is new for series 3 (he is too)

The boatshed was build at this location...

... which was transformed into this:

But inside, the boatshed is empty! It is just a facade.

The actual interior...

...can be found here, back on the soundstage with the other sets

Among the sets you will find the restyled café...

and the interior of Cleo's house.

What you see on screen (a shot from episode 3.05)...

...is quite different in reality.

Filming on location at the boatshed...

... on "Mako Island"...

... and on the beach.

The making of a mermaid starts with a plaster cast (Cariba Heine here)

Add a lot of work...

...hand-placing thousands of scales...

and more work.

Then, learn to swim like a mermaid...

...sqeeze into your new tail...

...I said sqeeeezzze into your tail...

...and slip elegantly into the water.

with a helping hand.

Sea World, this is where the underwater scenes are filmed

Meet the series' directors. Here is Jeffery Walker...

and Colin Budds

Lastly, here's an example of a storyboard. Here Rikki is confronted by the water tentacle

This next set of image captures come from the behind-the-scenes featurette found on the series 2 DVDs

Claire Holt provides a closer look at one of the mermaid tails...

The green interior is the same material wetsuits are made from

The back straps are fastened around the legs to keep the tail in place

A close-up of the scales, all individually hand-placed remember
