When a firefighter is killed on his first command, an Arson Squad investigation is launched and the platoon's loyalties are divided. Seldom faces an old foe from his days in the police service. The arrival of a new platoon member coincides with Danny Hunt becoming the target of a sexual harassment charge that jeopardises his career.

A massive apartment fire nearly takes Repo's life. This, coupled with the death of his father, causes Repo to reevaluate his life and make some fundamental changes that dramatically affect his new platoon at the West End Fire Station. Grievous is upset by a newspaper article that eroneously identifies Tex as the heroic firefighter who rescued a baby from the fire.©tzuk

The Arson Squad approaches an indictment of Repo who has been stripped of his Station Officer duties by Spit. Tex is forced to confront her future when she learns that she is pregnant. A new publicity campaign with Tex as the poster girl once again has Grievous up in arms. Delores cooks up a special meal for Spit and Detective Lucas, who is back at the station interviewing the firefighters as part of the investigation against Repo. Mary and Tex are called upon to "disengage" a man from a vacuum cleaner.©tzuk

Grievous learns that he is the father of a son born to lesbian parents, a son named Narwhal. During reutine fire safety inspections, Seldom and the platoon cross paths with Jimmy Runyon, an old foe of Seldom's from his days in the police service.©tzuk

Seldom is charged with assault and attempted murder in connection with his altercation with Jimmy Runyon but the case against him is quickly mismissed by the judge — but not before it is revealed one of Seldom's colleagues is prepared to testify against him. An aggressive insurance claims investigator talks Seldom into testifying against Jimmy in a separate case and Seldom perjures himself in order to get the conviction. Seldom seeks out Jean Diamond, who is now drinking away her life while on sick leave, to help him nail Jimmy. The platoon plays a practical joke on Mary hoping to change his violent beliefs. Spit takes an interest in a talkative entomologist. Repo warns Seldom that his vendetta against Jimmy could jeopardise his career.©tzuk

Jean Diamond returns to work with the Arson Squad in order to pursue Jimmy Runyon. Seldom's actions on the fire ground lead to his suspension on a charge of mutiny. Spit brings Sophie to a Father's Day party thrown by Delores. Seldom's daughter goes missing. She is quickly found, but not before Seldom confronts Jimmy thinking he's responsible. Seldom tells Repo the reasons for his vendetta.©tzuk

Grievous, Seldom, and Tex are sent up to Cairns as witnesses in an arson inquest but their hopes for a tropical vacation are quickly quenched. Tex's appearance in a firefighters calendar draws the attention of the Fire Commissioner. Foreseeing a difficult time in regards to the incident between Nugget and Garbo, Repo calls on TNT for help in dealing with the matter. The hand of fate strikes Grievous while he's in Cairns bringing about a drastic lifestyle change. A charge is officially lodged against Nugget by the Equal Opportunities Board.©tzuk

The charge against Nugget gets more serious as Pru and Wendy meet with the platoon to discuss the sexual harassment claim. Greta is feeling pressure from all fronts and considers quitting her job.©tzuk

There the platoon finds itself confronted by an armed madman who has taken over the hotel, setting booby traps and shooting at bystanders from a balcony.
