Heeler quits show

BLUE Heelers star Paul Bishop has quit the popular Australian police drama.

The shock move comes just one week after Jane Allsop was last seen on screen when her character, Jo Parrish, died in an explosion.

Bishop, who plays Sergeant Ben Stewart, has been with the show for more than six years.

Keen to pursue more theatre work, Bishop will star in the Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of Take me Out, from August to September.

“My fondness and optimism for Heelers is immense, and matched only by my desire to further my continuing career in theatre, film and other TV projects,” Bishop told the Herald Sun.

“I leave Heelers on a high. There is something magical about the show that I will miss.

“I will always watch it with great pride and fond memories of my six years in the cast.”

A cast shake-up saw four new characters join the show last night, following Allsop’s departure.

Bishop will continue to be seen on the series until early October.
