Showing Dad how it's done

FARSCAPE star Gigi Edgley jokes that her entrepreneur father Michael despairs she will ever score a "normal" role.

But after playing everything from an alien to a drug addict, the 25-year-old actor will make her father happy in her new role with The Secret Life Of Us.

Edgley is preparing to move to Melbourne to join the cast of the hit Ten Network drama, which began production on its third season a few weeks ago.

"Since I moved to Sydney to pursue acting, I've played a drug addict, a hooker, a girl with spina bifida and an alien. Dad kept asking me when I was going to get a real job," she laughed.

"I think he was relieved when I told him I was going to be on The Secret Life Of Us."

The gregarious young actor, who has been a consistent presence on Australian television since she graduated from university, became an international star via her role as the sexy alien Chiana, in the cult sci fi series Farscape.

"That was [a] wonderful rollercoaster ride for three years—even with the three and a half hours it took in make-up every day," she said.
