Things are different now, there's a new world order. It's been three months since Evan left for the writer's colony in New York. Alex is working at the Accident & Emergency Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She loves it—it's high stress and high energy and will stand her in good stead for when she goes back to the surgery program. Evan's finished his writers' stint in New York and is now travelling in Cuba with Gabrielle. Alex missed Evan desperately at first, but now the space is being filled with work at the hospital. Miranda is busy and enjoying living with Will. Meanwhile, Richie has got his dream job in a top rating serial, and the powers-that-be want to push him as the show ' s sexy heartthrob.
With Evan still overseas, Alex decides she needs a more active social life, and enters a whirl of parties and openings. Richie has made his TV soap debut but life is not sweet. Jason and Caitlin are pregnant and glowing.

Free Will

Freedom is standing on the edge being able to choose whether to jump. Will is almost killed by a freak accident on the site, which has a severe effect on his mental state. Alex is puzzled by Rex's timing in the bedroom. Kelly decides to broaden her horizons. Evan returns home from his travels.

The Dance

Life doesn't come in a straight line - it's more of a dance, You gotta know the moves. Evan is back but the household has a strange new dynamic as it includes Nathan and often Rex as well. Gabrielle has an interview at a trade union, and is smitten by the cute—and married—interviewer. Will and Miranda are getting closer than ever, and Richie is furious to discover that they have become lovers. Evan declares war on Alex and Rex's relationship.

An Ill Wind

Sometimes it takes an ill wind for us to tell our secrets, what good does it do once they're out there? Richie decides to tell his father Graeme that he is gay. He takes the news well, but things soon become fraught, leading to arguments and further, more damaging truths. Evan has a new love interest. Caitlain and Jason prepare for the new arrival. Alex is faced with some tough decisions regarding her feelings for Rex.

The Grand Delusion

It's Not Easy

How do you cook a delicious dinner, get a job, impress old friends, mend a fight, kiss an old flame, and win fifty bucks? It's not easy… Kelly drags Nathan to a party hosted by some old friends she is keen to impress. Nathan doesn't like being put on display as her trophy boyfriend and they end up fighting. Rex has suspicions about Alex and Evan, while Richie is angry at Will and Miranda's closeness. Caitlin wants to move to Sydney to be with her mother, but Jason tries to dissuade her.

A Fine Line

Love is a balancing act. Most of the time it's walking along a very thin wire. As Evan prepares to launch his novel, Alex's world comes crashing down when Rex splits up with her because he feels she doesn't love him. Richie is unable to commit to Simon. Caitlin and Jason's relationship takes a turn for the worse as they head for the airport, but neither is willing to address the situation.

Make Up Your Mind

Miranda decides to go with Will on his big adventure around the country, and while their imminent departure stirs up deep, conflicting emotions for both Kelly and Richie, a job offer throws a spanner in the works. Gabrielle is having difficulty with Damon at work, Evan takes matters with Rex into his own hands.

Gabrielle goes on a work trip with Dominic, determined not to act on her feelings for him.

Alex agonises over her pregnancy, then makes a big decision. Miranda is mortified when video of her and Richie having sex has made its way onto the internet. Jason returns home to find Caitlin leaving, and tries to stop her.

The Funny Side

The Great Divide

No matter how compatible you are with the person you love, you're always different. You can ignore these differences or embrace them, but either way you have to recognise them. It's called the Great Divide. Competitive tension creeps into Evan and Jemima's relationship. He tries to break up with her by sleeping with somebody else, but when he confesses, he's bemused by her reaction. But Jemima has the last laugh and they're soon breaking up for real.
Good intentions aren't enough to keep Gabrielle and Dominic together. Gab's feeling a poor second to his family and after days of relentless squabbling she asks him to move. But, he takes her at her word, and she's devastated.
Kelly has coffee with Nathan's Mum and her Nana pays a visit to Nathan. When both women point out the huge gulf between Kelly and Nathan, it actually brings them closer together.
Jason's enjoying hanging out with Angus. He takes his son to the Fu Bar one night where Evan and Christian use him as a "chick magnet".
Christian teaches Alex about the plants on the roof and then he tells her she's beautiful. They go back to his place, and in the morning Alex hides from Miranda. It's their delicious little secret.
Miranda's still searching for the right play to perform. After reading many scripts she finds one that moves her to tears and prompts her to reveal a secret from her past.

Sweet Revenge

Alex decides to date different kinds of men and ends up with more than she bargained for.
